Vermont - Quebec City Bike Tour

2009 marks the 400th anniversary of the great French explorer Samuel de Champlain’s discovery of the lake that bears his name.  In conjunction with the State of Vermont’s Celebrate Champlain events, Sojourn will offer two bike trips from Vermont to Quebec City.  The event is one of the top ten events of the summer as selected by the Vermont Chamber of Commerce.

Enjoy 10 days of cycling and exploring the sites along a route that parallels the waterways traveled by Samuel de Champlain. Historians and naturalists will join you for in-depth insights on several occasions throughout the trip.

Cycle the shores of Lake Champlain through the Champlain Islands and continue along the Richelieu River to its confluence with the mighty St. Lawrence, one of the great rivers of the world.

Tour historic Forts Lenox and Chambly in Quebec. Bike along the north shore of the St. Lawrence following Quebec’s famed Route Verte and Chemin du Roy (the King's Way - the oldest in Canada) through this French-speaking province’s most charming villages.

Cross the river by boat ferry to cycle picturesque Quebec farmland.  The distinctively painted barns and immaculate farmyards almost beg you to stop for photos.  Villages such as Portneuf and lovely Cap-Sante contain well-preserved buildings that date to the French rule in the early 1700’s. Architectural styles range from early French and English Classical to Neoclassic and Chateau styles.

Cycle into Quebec City along the spectacular Promenade Samuel de Champlain, named after the great explorer who built a settlement along the river here in 1608.  This began the development of the capital of Nouvelles France (New France) and what would eventually become known as Quebec City.  Opt for a ride around the countryside of Ile d'Orleans - a beautiful island full of artisans and patchwork farmland just a short trip from the City by bike path.

Explore historic Quebec City with a local guide.  Walk narrow streets lined with bistros and boutiques in classic European style in the Petit-Champlain, the oldest commercial district in North America.  Inside the walls of the city, visit numerous historic sites such as Place Royale and the quaint shops of Petit Champlain.  Enjoy the last couple of days of your trip relaxing and enjoying the sites in this most beautiful and European of North American cities.  At the conclusion of the trip, you will be transported back to the airport in Burlington, Vermont.

Two trips only.  Limited to 18 people per trip.
