What is the average daily mileage?
Daily mileage will vary, and there will be "breakaway" routes to extend ride distances. The range is estimated to be 30-75 miles.
What is included in the price of the trip?
- Use of a race-ready carbon road bike with Ultegra components
- Six days of cycling
- Five nights lodging
- Five breakfasts
- Four dinners
- Nutrition during the rides
- Daily route sheets and maps
- Support from a "domestique" on a bicycle
- Support from the Team car
- Mechanical support for minor bike repairs
- Two water bottles
What isn't included?
- Transportation to San Jose prior to the trip
- Transportation from Santa Barbara at the end of the trip
- Lodging before and after the trip
- Lunches (we recommend places to stop for lunch on the ride route, at your leisure)
- Alcoholic beverages
- Hotel charges for incidentals (phone calls, etc.)
- Gratuities to your team support staff at your discretion
What is the weather going to be like?
While it’s always difficult to predict the weather, the temperatures in the California Central Coast region tend to be mild, and rain tends to be sparse. Here are some weather statistics for Santa Maria:

What type of dining will we be doing?
When researching a trip, we seek out dining options with healthy, fresh choices typical of the California cuisine style of cooking.
Rest assured that nobody goes hungry on an Undiscovered Country trip! One of the joys of riding several hours per day is getting to enjoy the dinner afterwards. Feel free to order anything on the menu. The only thing that isn't incuded is alcohol.
Breakfasts are either continental style or made to order.
Where and when do we meet at the start of the trip?
We gather at 9 AM on the first morning of the trip in San Jose, at the Hotel de Anza. The hotel is conveniently located a few blocks from the San Jose Amtrak Station.
Where does the trip end?
The trip ends in Santa Barbara at the Amtrak Station, at 2:00 P.M. The Santa Barbara Airport is 7 miles away. The northbound train departs Santa Barbara at 2:43 P.M. The southbound train departs at 6:02 P.M.
