Wine Country Bike Tour — Sonoma County and Pacific Coast Weekend
Inspired vistas, intimate wineries, sun-kissed hills—this is California’s celebrated Wine Country cycling landscape. The routes are ideal for biking no matter how hard or easy you want to go. On this weekend trip, we explore valleys of world-famous vineyards, forests of soaring redwoods, perfect pastoral landscapes and the captivating Pacific Coast. A California Wine Country Bike Tour — With a DifferenceThere are literally dozens of Wine Country bike tours in California to choose from, so what makes our Sonoma County biking tour different? Typical of an Undiscovered Country experience, we avoid the more famous and heavily traveled portions of the Wine Country and choose instead to do our bike riding in the quieter and more intimate areas in Sonoma County. And while many Wine Country bike tours are long on wineries and short on cycling, our tours always emphasize the rides. Each day we even include a more challenging “long ride” option for up to 60 miles of cycling with some substantial climbing —enough riding to please any bicycling enthusiast. The differences are clear from the very start. We stay both nights of our tour in the tiny and quaint Russian River town of Monte Rio. It’s located on the meandering Russian River, about half way between the heart of the Sonoma County Wine Country and the Pacific Coast. This location makes it an ideal starting point for both a Wine Country ride and a Pacific Coast ride. But tiny and quaint doesn't mean spartan; we stay and dine at the charming and inviting Village Inn, on the banks of the Russian River. On Saturday, we cycle the Russian River Wine Road, a group of intimate wineries known for their award winning wines and friendly hospitality. On Sunday, we head west for a spectacular ride along the Pacific Coast’s Highway One to Bodega Bay, made famous by Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds. We return to Monte Rio along the Bohemian Highway through Occidental, passing beneath shady coastal redwoods along the way. Please Note: We also offer a 6-day Wine Country Tour of Sonoma and Mendocino County.
