California Weekend Bike Tour — Solvang Santa Barbara Wine Country
Daily Itinerary
Stage One — Saturday
We meet at 1:00 PM in Solvang, at the Hotel Corque. Check-in time at the hotel is 4 PM. After a brief meeting and fitting of the bicycles, there will be a warm-up ride through the nearby town of Los Olivos. The route we've chosen is the time trial course of the Tour of California professional bike race, which American Levi Leipheimer won in 2007.
You may choose to spend the rest of the afternoon cycling, relaxing, and walking the charming streets of Solvang. Dinner tonight will be at one of the fine Solvang restaurants. [15 miles 700']
Stage Two — Sunday
We gather for a continental breakfast, where we will go over the day's activities. After breakfast, we will begin our ride for the day: a rolling route through the backroads and past the local wineries to tiny Sisquoc, then back by way of Los Alamos and Los Olivos. Dinner will be at one of the nearby restaurants. [58 miles, 2400' with shorter and longer options]
Stage Three —Monday
Breakfast will be once again at the hotel. Today's ride will head to the wild Pacific coast, through rolling ranch land and some moderately high coastal mountains. The total round trip is about 75 miles, but there will be several spots along the way to pick up a ride in the support van. After returning to the Hotel Corque, we say our good byes to our trip companions and head home. [75 miles, 3000' with shorter options]
