It’s no accident that many of the Undiscovered Country bicycle trips pass through the state's famous—and undiscovered—Wine Country. The pace among the vineyards is tranquil, the environment is pleasing to the senses, the food and wine are some of the best anywhere, and the inns are charming and inviting. But what really draws us to the Wine Country is the great cycling. The roads we travel are smooth, lightly traveled, and simply beautiful.

The best Northern California Wine Country regions for cycling are Sonoma County, Napa County, and Mendocino County. Napa County is the most popular destination, but that popularity brings high traffic on the roads. Since bicycling is best where traffic is low, we have chosen to avoid the Napa Valley on our tours. In the central portion of the state lie the Central Coast Wine County of San Luis Obispo County, with its inviting town of Paso Robles, and Santa Barbara County, home to the cycling destination town of Solvang in the Santa Ynez Valley.
