California Gold Country Bike Tour

Daily Itinerary

Day One: Friday

We all arrive at our leisure in the late afternoon in Folsom, at the Lake Natoma Inn . Check-in time at the inn is 4 PM. There are no scheduled group activities on this day. You may choose to spend the time relaxing, walking the Folsom’s gold rush era Sutter Street, and dining at the restaurant of your choice. There are many restaurants within walking distance of the inn.

Day Two: Saturday

We gather for a sumptuous breakfast at the inn’s Natoma Bar and Grill , where we will introduce ourselves and talk about the days to come. After breakfast, we will check out of the inn and begin our ride for the day: a 39-mile trip (longer if you want it) through pastureland and rolling foothills to Volcano, a town that has seen little change since the miners picked up their shovels and moved on. The shining jewel of Volcano is the historic St. George Hotel, recently restored to its 19th century splendor. This will be our lodging for the night (since this is a historic hotel, some of the best rooms in the original building have shared baths). In the afternoon, we'll have an informal get-together with refreshments in the garden of the hotel. Massage is available on-site, please let us know if you would like one and we will arrange an appointment. Dinner will be at the St. George’s restaurant, voted “Best Fine Dining in Amador County”.

Day Three: Sunday

In the morning, we will enjoy the continental breakfast buffet at the St. George Hotel, check out, place our luggage in the support van, and head north on today's ride to Placerville. Today we’ll be traveling the award winning wine region of the Gold Country, passing by a dozen or so small wineries. The towns we visit have names that harken back to the heady days of the Gold Rush: Fiddletown, Fair Play, Somerset. After about 40 miles, we arrive in Placerville, where the van awaits to shuttle us back to Folsom and the end of the trip. But if you would like to do some more cycling, you can choose to skip the shuttle and ride a mostly downhill route an additional 25 miles back to Folsom.
