California Bike Tour — Central Coast
A new take on a classic bicycle tour in the heart of California
Half way between San Francisco and Los Angeles lies the California Central Coast. Known for its great combination
of mild weather and seemingly endless countryside, the Central Coast draws tens of thousands of bicycling enthusiasts
every year. From the Great Western Bike Rally to the Solvang Century to the professional cycling camps, there seems
no limit to the variety of great cycling opportunities.
At the northern end of the region is the wine country of Paso Robles, an inviting town surrounded by dozens of
excellent wineries. Just to the south lie the laid back coastal town of Morro Bay and the vibrant college community of
San Luis Obispo. South from here, the land stretches broadly across miles of valley farms and rolling hills to
the historic town of Santa Maria. Continuing south, quiet country roads wind through shallow canyons to the
Santa Ynez Valley Wine Country, its vineyard covered foothills rest beneath a backdrop of tall mountains. This
area is home to the wine country towns of Santa Ynez, Los Olivos, and the Danish-inspired town of Solvang.
The roads, the scenery, the mild weather, the wine country, the inviting towns with quaint inns and restaurants:
it’s no wonder that the California Central Coast region is such a popular touring destination.
But as is our way, we’ve designed a Central Coast tour that is a bit out of the ordinary. We located
the inns and restaurants that are, well, undiscovered. We strung together a back roads route that spans the whole
region, from Paso Robles in the north to Santa Barbara in the south, in just six days of biking. And we built in plenty
of cycling, up to 250 miles—if you want it. What we don’t have on this tour are wine tasting junkets,
cooking classes, museum walks, shopping sprees. We opted simply for lots of great rides, great restaurants, and
inviting inns.
If you’re drawn to the idea of day after day of great cycling, great food, and charming inns, our
California Central Coast Bike Tour may be just the kind of trip you have been looking for.
